PROBING COMPETITION: SENATE JOINS THE LEAGUE
It is now becoming more of a caricature in Nigeria when you hear the word probing. What should have been a process to determine the fact, has now been politicized and publicized to the point that our ever dynamic Nigerian comedians have now turned to it for materials.
Report has it that The Senate has commenced investigation into an alleged N600 billion cost of collection withheld by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The probe followed a petition written by the Legislative Watch, a non governmental organisation to the Senate. The Executive Secretary of the organisation, Mr. Ngozika Ihuoma who appeared before the members of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public petitions said for over 10 years the two agencies have not been remitting the cost of collection to the federation account.A document made available to the Senate by Ihuoma showed that Customs received N350bn and FIRS got N250bn in 10 years through the cost of collection.
If you ask them, they will say it's part of their oversight functions. Well, go ahead. If the agenda of this APC led government is PROBING only, then I seriously pray that 2019 should hasten up. Let's see if they will shout CHANGE or CONTINUE...
